Serving Veterans, Supporting Communities, Answering the Call

Comrades,

It is my honor to welcome you to the Commander’s Corner for VFW Department of Texas, District 4.

As members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, we share a proud tradition of service that extends well beyond our military careers. Our obligation to one another, to our fellow veterans, and to the communities we serve remains just as important today as it was when our organization was founded.

District 4 is committed to strengthening our Posts, increasing our visibility in the community, supporting our veterans and their families, and ensuring that every eligible veteran understands the benefits and resources available through the VFW. Through our combined efforts, we can continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who have worn the uniform.

VFW/GSF Disaster Response Team

One of the most important examples of that commitment is the VFW/GSF Disaster Response Team. When disaster strikes, the need for assistance often extends far beyond what government agencies and traditional emergency organizations can provide. Veterans understand the meaning of service, teamwork, preparedness, and responding when our neighbors need us most.

The VFW/GSF Disaster Response Team provides an opportunity for our organization to put those principles into action. Whether responding to severe storms, flooding, hurricanes, or other emergencies, our volunteers stand ready to assist communities and fellow veterans during some of their most difficult moments.

This effort demonstrates an important truth: service does not end when we take off the uniform.

I encourage every Post in District 4 to learn more about disaster response capabilities and to identify members who are willing to participate, train, and answer the call when needed. Preparedness today allows us to respond more effectively tomorrow.

Strengthening Our Posts

Strong Posts are the foundation of a strong District and a strong VFW. I encourage every Commander and Post leadership team to remain focused on the fundamentals: recruiting and retaining members, engaging our communities, supporting our veterans, submitting quality programs and activities, and developing the next generation of VFW leaders.

Most importantly, let us remember that membership is not simply about numbers. It is about bringing veterans together, providing them with a place to belong, and giving them meaningful opportunities to continue serving.

Every member has something valuable to contribute. Our responsibility as leaders is to create the environment where those contributions can make a difference.

Our Commitment

As we move forward, District 4 will continue to support our Posts and members while promoting the VFW’s core mission of honoring and serving those who have served our nation.

Let us remain visible, engaged, and ready to serve. Let us continue advocating for veterans’ benefits, supporting our active-duty military and their families, assisting our communities, and maintaining the traditions that have made the VFW a trusted voice for veterans for generations.

I am proud to serve alongside the Comrades of District 4. Together, through dedication, teamwork, and a continued commitment to service, we can ensure that No One Does More for Veterans.
