WELCOME TO TEXAS VFW DISTRICT 4

No One Does More for VETS
As yesterday's defenders of freedom, we want to welcome today's military service members into our ranks to become part of our elite group. Our common bond is the battlefield, whether it is service in the Persian Gulf, Korea, Kosovo, the war on terrorism or peace-keeping expeditionary campaigns. Your courage and sacrifice have made a difference in preserving and defending world peace.

Commander's Corner

Commander Buddy Granthum

Commanders and District 4 officers,

Year 23-24 is officially over.  The District did great.  All American and All State ending up 4th in our National Division with a membership level of 106.46% and 2nd in our State Divison.  We were just behind Texas District 28 on both lists. I am positive that 2nd place won’t happen again.

Post 8905 ended placed 11th in their National Division with a chart topping 114.71% membership and Texas made 102+% the last few days,  which your teams helped.  Without our additional members enrolling, Texas would not have reached 102%.

All of you reached 102+%.  Amazing!!!!  I say again:  Amazing.  Robin Sharma: "Starting strong is good. Finishing strong is epic"

Post 10462 squeezed out All American on the last day with lots of District and Department help to join Posts 912 and 8790.  Congrats to these three Posts and their members.  Not having a Teacher of the Year during the contest time period held most Posts out of the running.  We can fix that.

It was heartbreaking that we lost Mike Contreras.  He was a dear friend and mentor to many of us.  Luckily we had Johnny Rubio willing to walk through the flames and be our Quartermaster.  He and others are currently being schooled through a painful State Bingo audit.  To be honest, we weren’t doing a good job and I take on that blame as I didn’t ask enough of the right questions.  Johnny is putting us on the straight and righteous path.

I close with this thought.  Every ending is also a beginning.  Whether you are remaining as commander or have pasted the torch, you have a proud history worth sharing and knowledge worth using to help your Post to rise to even greater success.

E. A. "Buddy" Grantham
District 4 Commander.
